Things You'll Need:
- Some vocal musical ability
- Few inhibitions
-
Step 1
Listen to as many recordings of "Diamond Dave" as you can, to get a feel for his vocal style and tone. Then start practicing the simplest song you can find, perhaps something like "You Really Got Me."
-
Step 2
His voice is rich and baritone, not high and whiny, so work on creating a sound that is full and comes from the chest. Work on his pronunciations. For some reason, he often sings words like "burnin" as "boynin." Also work on his high scream, which almost sounds like two notes at once, while being careful not to tear up your vocal chords. Also practice a guttural "ooh," a syllable that sounds almost as if someone has punched you in the stomach.
-
Step 3
Incorporate some of his moves: kicks, mic-stand backbends and hairflips. If you try to embody David Lee Roth as a character, you're more likely to sound a bit more like him.
-
Step 4
Try out your new impression at a local karaoke venue. Practice makes perfect.
