How to Make Salsa

Fresh homemade salsa just can't be beat for flavor and the compliments you will receive when friends and family dip into it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fresh, peeled Roma-style tomatoes, chopped, to equal about 1 quart (32 oz.)
  • 1-2 fresh hot peppers (or to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp. cumin
  • 1/2 red onion
  • 3-4 large cloves garlic
  • 1/2 bunch of fresh cilantro (coriander leaves, Chinese parsley)
  • Several ripe, garden-fresh, uncooked tomatoes
  • 1 fresh Anaheim or Ancho chile, diced small
  • 1 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp. tequila
  • 1 tbsp. lime juice
  1. Step 1

    Mix together in a saucepan and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes, until liquid is reduced:
    * Fresh, peeled Roma-style tomatoes, chopped, to equal about 1 quart (32 oz.)
    * 1-2 fresh hot peppers (or to taste)
    * 1/2 tsp. cumin

  2. Step 2

    When mixture is cool, chop finely and add:
    1/2 red onion
    3-4 large cloves garlic
    1/2 bunch of fresh cilantro (coriander leaves, Chinese parsley)
    Several ripe, garden-fresh, uncooked tomatoes
    1 fresh Anaheim or Ancho chile, diced small

  3. Step 3

    Also add:
    1 tbsp. soy sauce
    1 tbsp. tequila
    1 tbsp. lime juice

  4. Step 4

    Stir and store in an air-tight container.

Tips & Warnings
  • Refrigerated, it lasts about a week.
  • Dip chips into this great stuff, or use in recipes that call for any type of salsa or hot sauce.
  • All amounts are approximate and you can vary them depending upon your taste.
