Things You'll Need:

  • Ideas on your date's interests
  • Inexpensive venues to take your date
  • Dining guides
  1. Step 1

Discover some things about your date before you go out. By knowing some key interests your date has, you will be more able to plan a terrific date that centers around their likes. Finding out simple things like if they like the outdoors or prefer a date indoors can help lead you to finding activities that will impress them. Plus, it shows them that you were listening!

  2. Step 2

Be prepared. You will want to have at least two or three activities planned in case something happens to prevent you from what you had planned. If you planned a picnic at the park but it rains, you should consider a place to take your picnic indoors. If you were planning to go to a museum but find the museum is closed for the day, take your date rollerblading in the park. Choose a variety of activities that you know your date will love and that fit into your budget.

  3. Step 3

Pay attention to presentation. You could be doing something simple and still make it seem like an extravagant date, but it’s all in the way you present it to your date. If you’re going to go hiking, pack a picnic lunch with some candles to light once you’ve reached your destination. If you’re spending the day at the park, plan to do something fun, like flying a kite or taking a boat out on the lake.

  4. Step 4

Be thoughtful. Even if you thought your idea was going to receive accolades from your date, pay attention to their reaction to see if they’re really having fun or not. If you sense they’re uncomfortable, give them some other affordable options. You may be amazed to find that your date has some good ideas, too!

  5. Step 5

Keep it simple. First dates are really a great time to get to know each other better, so whatever activity you plan should really give you the opportunity to get to know each other better. Walking through a museum or art gallery can give you insight into each other’s tastes and usually doesn’t cost much. Movies aren’t inexpensive dates anymore, anyways, so save your money for more dates in the future and spend the first date just getting to know this unique person.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check your city's website for ideas on free activities going on in your neighborhood.
  • Plan a number of activities in case of bad weather.
  • Don't spend your date worrying about money problems; you won't enjoy your date.
