Write Creative Lunch Box Notes

Children love to open their lunch box and find a handwritten note. Sharing a special message with your child is great, but eventually we all run out of creative things to say. Try these tips for writing great lunch box notes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Write notes on everything and anything. Use your child's napkin, note cards, sticky squares, or even pictures pulled from magazines. Create a quick collage using unlined index cards, pictures of their favorite star, and a special message just from you.

  2. Step 2

Include reminders of special things coming up. Start a count-down at the beginning of the week for a special event on the weekend. "Only 3 more days until..."

  3. Step 3

Lunch box notes don't just have to be words. Draw a silly picture instead. No one expects you to be Picasso - stick figures work perfectly. The point is to make your child smile.

  4. Step 4

Pull inspiration from a children's joke book. Funny jokes get passed around the lunchroom.

Q:How do you know when it's raining cats and dogs?
A: You step in a poodle.

  5. Step 5

Try adding a bit of children's poetry. Look in the children's section of the library for inspiration. Shel Silverstein is always a favorite.

Tips & Warnings
  • Sit down and create a weeks worth of lunch box notes at one time. It is hard to be creative in the morning when you're trying to beat the bus.
  • For long notes, don't hesitate to type them on the computer. Just be sure to add a handwritten "Love" at the bottom.
  • Don't stop just sending in love notes. Your child is never too old to enjoy them. Your tweens may role their eyes, but deep down they still like the extra attention.
