You might be surprised to know that Miami is not as bustling with gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender resources as some cities of its size even though it's home to what's called the Gay Riviera. But never fear, reinforcements are less than a half hour away in Ft. Lauderdale.

Act like a tourist. Explore the "Gay Riviera," Miami's South Beach with its gay history, culture and nightlife-not to mention the beach. Check out Miami's "gay-borhoods: Downtown Miami and Brickell, the "Upper East Side," Biscayne Bay, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Little Havana and Aventura.

Do the bar scene. From Acuzar to the Laundry Bar to Uranus, Miami does have a fair share of GLBT bars to choose from.

Seek out the community. Connect with the Gay Community Center in Ft. Lauderdale, just about thirty miles away.

Celebrate your Pride. Ft. Lauderdale's South Florida Pride Festival is in April, Miami's Stonewall Pride Festival takes place in late June and Miami Black Pride gets going in July.

Be part of the social scene. Miami offers the SoBe gay social club, the Dolphin Democratic Club and other associations where you can meet others.
