Refrigerator manufactures want you to clean the refrigerant coils under your refer often. This will prolong the life of your refer and allow it to run more efficiently. And you wont be embarrassed if anyone ever has to look behind there! YUCK!!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Your vacuum and hose attachments
  • Air compressor and hose
  • Air chuck and wand
  • micro duster
  1. Step 1

Pull forward the refer: Get enough room to work on the back as well as the front. Unplug the refer as this will take only minutes.

  2. Step 2

Set up your tools: you want this job to go quick and this trick is all about 'fast'. Vacuum hose in back, and compressor hose in front.

  3. Step 3

Remove the lower front cover: They usually snap in place. Take it out and clean it good.

  4. Step 4

Turn on the power tools: Vacuum first, and then the compressor. If you have help, have this person vacuum the blown dust from behind the refer. If you don't, just lay the hose where it will be most effective. Use the duster and the compressor air chuck and wand to pressure wash the coils. stroke the coils gently with the duster, while blowing the dust towards the vacuum. Illuminate the job to see how you did. Dust all around the bottom compartment of the refrigerator, and refer compressor. Your refer will thank you. Way to go!

  5. Step 5

Piece of mind: It's good to know you're doing your best to stay ahead of the 'House Husbandry' game. 'Honey Do's', is all about being told! Now we're free for play time with the boys.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is a good time to wash the walls behind and aside the refer.
  • Check water lines and flooring to see if there are any leaks
  • Just for a joke, holler, "WHAT'S ALL THIS MONEY DOING UNDER HERE"
  • lOOK! HERE'S ALL JOHNNY'S REPORT CARDS
  • You might find years of neglect; so you may want to vacuum first, and then use the compressor.
  • Don't be too surprised to find waxy stuff on the floor. just clean it up.
  • Be careful not to gouge the flooring. Use floor pads if need

on 2/20/2008 Good guide! I clean behind and under our fridge every 3 to 4 months! I have one freezer that was my Mom's and Dad's that has actually gone through a rust-oleum makeover because of it's age - because I always clean it up around the coils! It is a manual defrost and very efficient!
