Toner is an important part of many people's skin care regimen. Toner helps you remove residual dirt and balances the PH of the skin. If you're using toner for your skin or want to start, there are some things to keep in mind.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose the type of toner you want. There are many different kinds on the market, but you want to choose one without alcohol, as alcohol can dry out the skin. If you're using a toner to prevent acne, choose one specially formulated for this.

  2. Step 2

Wash and thoroughly dry your face before applying the toner.

  3. Step 3

Apply a small amount of the toner to a cotton ball or a cotton pad. Avoid soaking the cotton ball so it leaves wet streaks across your face. However, don't leave it so dry you don't feel the toner applied.

  4. Step 4

Brush or gently stroke the cotton ball across the face making sure you get into the corners of the nose and the hairline. Never rub your skin while applying toner.

  5. Step 5

Allow the toner to absorb for a minute or two before applying your moisturizer.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep toner out of the eye and avoid stroking it across the fragile skin surrounding the eyes.
  • If you have dry skin, you may want to use toner every other day or every few days to prevent your skin from drying out.
  • Some experts suggest running the cotton ball or pad through warm water, squeezing out the excess and then soaking it in toner.
