When traveling in a Spanish speaking country, you will probably spend money. Whether you're at a restaurant, a retail store or anywhere else you will spend money, expect to encounter someone who does not speak English. Therefore, it is very important to know how to say common money phrases in Spanish.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Say, "¿Dónde está el banco?" to ask where the bank is and, "¿Dónde está el cajero" to ask where the ATM machine is. Pronounce a "j" in Spanish like an "h" in English.

  2. Step 2

Ask, "¿Dónde está la oficina de cambiar dinero?" when you want to know where the money exchange office is located. This is an important question because you will probably have to exchange money when you are in a Spanish speaking country. "¿Qué es la tasa de intercambio?" means "What is the exchange rate?" This will be a useful phrase while visiting the money exchange office.

  3. Step 3

Learn, "¿Dónde puedo cambiar el dinero?" and "¿Cuánto vale un dólar?" These phrases will also be useful in the money exchange office. The first one means "Where can I exchange the money?" and the second one means "How much is $1 worth?"

  4. Step 4

Cash travelers checks by saying, "¿Puedo cambiar estos cheques de viajero?"

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy a good Spanish-English dictionary to carry with you to a Spanish speaking country. You can also get an electronic translator.
  • Do not depend on an electronic translator. It is good for vocabulary but it will not translate grammar.
