If you have mastered the basic techniques of bowling, then it's time to kick your game up to the next notch. The beginner's grip will allow you to knock a few pins down, but the fingertip or advanced grip, as it's sometimes called, will jump your score once mastered.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Insert your thumb all the way into the thumb hole on the ball. Just like the beginner grip, you want to make sure that the hole is not too loose or tight. Your finger must slide out easily without getting caught and you losing your grip.

  2. Step 2

Place middle and ring fingers into the top 2 holes on the ball. The major difference with the fingertip or advanced grip is that you only insert your fingers until the first knuckle. This will allow you to get more spin on the ball, resulting in more strikes.

  3. Step 3

Balance the ball by placing your index and pinky finger on either side of the top holes of the bowling ball. This will mirror your position in the beginner's grip. However, this balance will become more important because less of your fingers are in the bowling ball, making it less stable overall.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have lifts inserted into your bowling ball. These little plastic or rubber pieces will aid your fingertip grip.
  • If you are a die-hard bowler, buy your own bowling ball. Not only will the holes be made specifically to your fingers, but you'll be able to keep your ball nice and smooth, unlike some of those ancient lane balls that get chipped over time.
