How to Do Pilates Full Teaser Exercise

Pilates has become extremely popular in the United States as it is a gentle yet effective form of exercise suitable for people of all ages and body types. Working to stretch and strengthen the core body muscles, pilates can improve posture and blood circulation, sculpt the body and increase agility. With a few simple tips you can add the pilates full teaser exercise to your regular routine.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Carpeting or soft yoga mat
  1. Step 1

    Begin the pilates full teaser by laying flat on your back on a soft surface. You can lay directly on soft carpeting or use a yoga mat. Extend your spine up long and straight and allow your arms to relax at your sides.

  2. Step 2

    Engage your abdominal muscles as you inhale and lift your arms up and back above your head. Exhale and lift your torso and legs to center position. As your exhale and swing your arms towards the center, lift your body into a "V" position. Your legs should end up straight and lifted at about 45 degrees and the palms of your hands should end up just above your knees.

  3. Step 3

    Inhale as your relax your legs back to the floor and your arms back above your head. Try to use you abdominal muscles to lift your legs and torso, instead of using the momentum of your movements.

  4. Step 4

    Repeat the pilates full teaser 8 to 10 times before relaxing your arms and legs to the floor and relaxing.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are just beginning pilates or have a history of lower back pain and you experience discomfort during your practice of the full teaser, practice and perfect the half teaser first, lifting only 1 leg at a time and alternating sides. When you feel strong enough, move on to the full teaser.
