If you want to keep the game of paintball fun and prevent injuries, then you need to learn some basic safety rules. Most of the rules simply involve using good judgment and learning how to handle your equipment correctly.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep your mask on. You wear a mask to protect your face, especially your eyes, from severe injury. As soon as the round begins, pull the mask over your head and keep it on throughout game play.

  2. Step 2

Look before you fire your paintball gun. You want to know what you are shooting before you pull the trigger. Take a second, aim and then shoot.

  3. Step 3

Monitor the speed and distance when you are shooting. Often, your group sets rules about the permitted speed and distance you can shoot at. These rules are set because close range and fast shots can really hurt a player.

  4. Step 4

Block the barrel of your gun. You need to plug the barrel of your gun when you are not playing. Most guns are equipped with this feature.

  5. Step 5

Aim your gun down during reload. Always consider your gun loaded. Otherwise, you may accidentally shoot yourself or another player at close range.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that your paintball gun is not a toy. Keeping this in mind during a game can help prevent careless accidents. You should also closely monitor any minors who are playing the game.
  • Avoid playing paintball if you've been drinking; you'll probably make judgment errors on the playing field.
