Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Foil
  • Fencing uniform
  1. Step 1

Face your opponent and stand in the on guard position. Place your feet hip-width apart, rotate the foot corresponding to your weapon arm to point forward and squat slightly. Keep your posture upright and center your weight between both legs.

  2. Step 2

Move towards your opponent moving your forward leg first and following with your back leg to gain right-of-way. You must be moving towards your opponent, not retreating, to gain right-of-way.

  3. Step 3

Lunge forward by moving your front leg forward while keeping your back leg on the ground.

  4. Step 4

Thrust your weapon arm forward by fully extending your weapon arm and striking your opponent in the chest or abdomen.

  5. Step 5

Return to the on guard position and continue to practice the move until you feel comfortable with the timing of moving your feet and weapon arm nearly simultaneously.
