Recreational sports can be a lot of fun, whether you belong to a basketball league, like to go skiing, or maybe enjoy running. But when injury strikes, especially a knee injury, the road to recovery can be long and painful. Here's how to do a squat exercise for your knee when you are trying to rehab it as part of a therapy program.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand with your feet shoulder width apart. There are no specifics here, just how you feel most comfortable naturally standing.

  2. Step 2

Bend your knees slightly and stick your bottom out. Don't over bend in the knees, but just allow them to find a nice slightly bent comfortable place. Your bottom will naturally stick out slightly which will get you position for the squats.

  3. Step 3

Lower yourself by continuing to bend at the knees until you've reached a position where you are parallel with the height of your knees. If you cannot lower yourself all the way, simply go as far as your knee or body will allow to you to go. Raise yourself until you are back in the original slightly bent position. This is 1 repetition of the physical therapy squat exercise.

Tips & Warnings
  • After an injury, seek the advice of physical therapist after you've seen your doctor. The physical therapist will put together a specific program of exercises that you can perform to rehab your knee.
  • Wear loose comfortable clothing when completing any physical therapy exercises.
  • There are several variations on how people like to hold their arms when completing these squat exercises. They can be crossed, straight out in front of you, at your sides, or even with your palms down sliding down your knees.
