Kickboxing has become a popular sport in the United States, as it works to strengthen and build muscles while teaching self-confidence and self-defense. One of the best self-defense strategies in advanced kickboxing is combining strikes to confuse the attacker. Once you have learned a few basic beginner moves, you can combine them to create advanced strike techniques.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin with a fairly simple advanced striking kickboxing combination that includes 2 punches and a kick. Catch your opponent off guard by beginning with a left hook. Because most people are right handed, most people dominate their punches with right hooks, so that is what your opponent is looking for. Starting off with a left hook is a great way to confuse your attacker right from the beginning.

  2. Step 2

Follow your left hook with a right round house kick, now that your attacker is thinking about you swinging more punches. Because you began with a left hook, your opponent is most likely thinking you will continue with the standard 1-2 punch, following your left hook with a right hook. By performing a right round house kick after your left jab, you shift his focus once again.

  3. Step 3

Finish your combination with an overhand right punch, now that your attacker is focused on defending his lower half. The purpose of this strike combination is to keep the focus and defense of your opponent changing constantly, so that as he is trying to protect his upper body, you strike his lower body. And as he is trying to protect his lower body, you strike his upper body.

  4. Step 4

Kick to the body with a second round house if necessary; however, this 1-2-3 combination is usually enough to stop your attacker and give a chance to escape.

Tips & Warnings
  • This kickboxing strike combination is best practiced with a sparring partner or punching bag, so be sure to wear proper padding and use boxing gloves.
