How to Make Pizza on a Pizza Stone

Instead of ordering out for a delicious "pizza pie," a good way to save money is to make homemade pizza. You're able to add your own toppings and use as little or as much sauce as you want. You can even control when it's actually at your "doorstep." For the most delicious, authentic pizza parlour results, nothing beats using a pizza stone.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Acquire a pizza stone to make your homemade pizza. You can purchase one at your local retail store or through a specialty culinary distributor such as Pampered Chef (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Preheat your oven. Commercial pizza ovens heat at 500 degrees; however, some home, personal-use ovens can't accommodate that heat setting. Place your oven at the highest temperature your oven allows between 400 and 500 degrees.

  3. Step 3

Place your stone into the preheated oven and preheat your stone for 15 minutes. You can sprinkle flour or cornmeal onto your stone to add seasoning, but your stone will gain seasoning over time so this is completely optional.

  4. Step 4

Remove your preheated stone from the oven. Use pot holders because stones retain a great amount of heat and you can easily burn yourself.

  5. Step 5

Make your pizza directly on your preheated stone. Let your imagination go wild and add toppings that you normally can't get from a pizza place.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never wash your stone with soap because the soap can penetrate the stone and taint the flavoring of future pizzas.
