Wayne Gretzky was known for scoring wraparound goals from behind the net, setting up shop in his so-called office, since he went to work there during every game. Gretzky knew that perfecting a wraparound goal in hockey involved the element of surprise. By following the steps below, you can learn how to set up your own office, giving you a better chance of slipping the puck past the netminder.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Gain control of the hockey puck behind the net that you're shooting at. It's best to not have an opponent guarding you. You can accomplish this while on a power play when your team will have a person advantage.

  2. Step 2

Fake out the goalie. You can do this by exaggerating your movement toward either the left or the right of the net. The goalie will watch you to determine which way the puck will go.

  3. Step 3

Repeat faking the goalie. Lean one way, but don't commit. Lean the other way, but don't commit.

  4. Step 4

Pretend that you're planning to pass the puck to your team mate or move into the slot. The goalie should make a move at this point.

  5. Step 5

Sneak the puck quickly alongside the opposite side of where the goalie is leaning. Complete your wraparound by tucking the puck in the goal.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that the key to a wraparound is surprise. You also want to make sure that you execute the shot quickly, without allowing the goalie time to react.
  • A variation of the wraparound is to fake the wraparound by pulling the puck and shooting it to the far side of the net. You could also pass the puck to a team mate charging toward the net for an easy score.
