Inexpensive and easy to work with, hemp jewelry is perfect for the beginning crafter. Once you master the basics, you can enjoy a fun new hobby and make custom bracelets to wear or give away to your friends.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Board
  • Nail
  • Hemp string
  • Button
  1. Step 1

Prepare to work on hemp jewelry by hammering a nail into a piece of board. The board can be of any length you find comfortable to work with. Or, you could hammer it to a table you've designated for crafting.

  2. Step 2

Begin with two sections of hemp that are of equal length. Loop the strands over the nail to get four equal lengths. You will tie these into the knots to create the bracelet's design. As a rule of thumb, you should have enough hemp to equal 5 times the length of the finished piece.

  3. Step 3

Pull the two center strands straight down. These two pieces will stay inside while you tie knots around them.

  4. Step 4

Take the outside strand that hangs on the left. Fold it over the center pieces and under the outside string that hangs on the right.

  5. Step 5

Hold the string on the outside-right. Weave it under the center strings and over the outside-left string. This is the basic knot for hemp jewelry.

  6. Step 6

Tie a button on the end of the strings, making sure it fits into the loop you created at the top of your hemp strands. This makes a clasp for your hemp bracelet.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can pull the knots of your hemp jewelry as tightly as you'd like, or you can play with size of the gaps for a lacy effect.
  • Add beads by stringing them onto the center strings at intervals of your choice.
