Of the many types of flat irons available for purchase, ceramic flat irons have gained popularity because of their gentleness on the hair, causing less damage than other traditional flat irons. With patience and practice, you'll be on your way to styling your hair with a ceramic flat iron in no time.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Smoothing shampoo
  • Smoothing conditioner
  • Hair dryer
  • Wire hairbrush
  • Hair clips
  • Ceramic flat iron
  • Heat protection product
  • Finishing product
  1. Step 1

Ask for your hairstylist's guidance in purchasing a ceramic flat iron. Get a recommendation for the size flat iron you're going to use on your hair. Sizes range from small, medium and large--the thickness of the straightener. Also check into price ranges for a ceramic flat iron. Costs can vary and a cheaper flat iron may do the same or more than the more expensive flat iron.

  2. Step 2

Wash and condition your hair with a "smoothing" shampoo and conditioner. Matrix offers a line of products specifically for locking in moisture and dealing with curls and frizz.

  3. Step 3

Blow-dry your hair. Use a wire brush, while drying your hair, to aid in the straightening process. Consider using the dryer on a lower heat setting for best protection of your hair.

  4. Step 4

Separate your hair into sections for straightening. Start at the bottom of your hair by clipping your hair on top of your head, and pull sections of your hair down as you straighten. Ceramic flat irons can cause damage, so use a heat protection product to protect your hair.

  5. Step 5

Complete your straightened hair with a finishing or polishing spray.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ceramic flat irons produce a lot of heat. If you apply too much heat to one section of your hair, you can burn your hair.
