How to Use a Brush to Detangle Hair
A young girl with lots of knots in her hair looks unkempt. The knots typically happen during the night while she is sleeping. You can use a normal hairbrush to detangle the knots in a young girl's hair. You can also use these tips for your own mane. Does this Spark an idea?

Figure out a distraction before you start. Give the child a small toy or book to occupy her time while you brush her hair.

Use a detangling spray if the hair is very knotty. The detangling spray dampens the hair and loosen the knots.

Find a large paddle brush to use to detangle her hair. You want a brush with soft bristles that won't hurt when you're trying to get the knots out.

Start at the bottom of the hair and work your way up. Systematically, go through each section of hair, starting at the bottom. To prevent hurting the child, hold the top of her hair away from her head.

Stroke the brush gently through the hair. Let the brush do the work and try not to pull at the knots with the brush. Run the brush through the hair as many times as it takes to get rid of all of the knots.

A young girl may complain when you're detangling knots from her hair. Try your best to assure them that you're brushing the hair as gently as possible.
For curly hair, a pick is normally better to use to detangle knots. A comb can be used to remove knots from all hair types.
