When coloring a client's hair or your own, one of the final steps of the process is rinsing out the hair dye. If the dye is not correctly rinsed out, the coloring job may turn out bad. Poorly rinsed hair can have different hues to it and an uneven look.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place gloves on your hands if you are not already wearing them. It is a good idea to wear gloves throughout the hair dying process, so that you avoid stains on your skin.

  2. Step 2

Plan to rinse out hair color in the sink. Keep the hair over the sink at all times during this process.

  3. Step 3

Check the water temperature. Rinse hair at a cool temperature, but one that's tolerable to the skin. Cool water is less likely to cause the dye to fade.

  4. Step 4

Start rinsing the areas around the face. Make sure you get the dye at the hairline, behind the ears and back of the neck. Tilt the head in different directions to rinse the entire mane. Look in the mirror from time to time to keep track of your progress. Wait until the water runs clear to stop rinsing.

  5. Step 5

Use a wet washcloth to wipe away any hair dye marks on the skin. Continue rubbing at the area until the stains are completely removed.

  6. Step 6

Shampoo and condition the hair after you rinse. You want to use a shampoo and deep conditioner to clean away the residual dye.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the person complains of a burning sensation, then you should rinse out the hair dye as soon as possible.
  • When dying your own hair at home, you can use a shower head attachment and rinse out the dye over the tub.
