If you're getting your hair colored or are looking at becoming a hair stylist, you may be wondering about the final step of hair color--removing the foils and rinsing the chemicals away. Luckily, it's an easy technique to master.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check your client's hair to make sure the color is constant, by gently folding back the foil on one strand of hair and peeking at it.

  2. Step 2

Make sure the towel is firmly around the neck so no chemicals get onto your client's clothing. In addition, as you remove the foils, keep them and your client's newly colored hair out of their face until you rinse it.

  3. Step 3

Remove the foil by pulling it gently. If you folded it correctly, you should be able to pull it out without tangling up or pulling your client's hair.

  4. Step 4

Tilt your client back so their hair is in the sink for rinsing.

  5. Step 5

Clean the hair with cool water, always letting your client know that the water will be cool. Make sure you rinse around hairline, beneath ears and underneath the neck to remove any hair color that's on the skin. Continue rinsing until the water is clear.

  6. Step 6

Massage shampoo designed for recently colored hair into the scalp very gently. The hair and scalp has just gone through a chemical process and may be a little sensitive, especially if you start scrubbing at it. Make sure you get all the color off the skin.

  7. Step 7

Rinse the shampoo out using cool water. Squeeze the excess water out with a towel and get ready to cut and style the hair.
