Things You'll Need:
- Fine tooth comb
- Rat tail comb
- Barrette or clip
- Mousse or hair gel
-
Step 1
Comb the hair thoroughly with a wide-tooth comb and then follow up by combing it with the fine-tooth comb to make sure every tiny snarl and knot is removed. Apply a small amount of mousse or hair gel to make the hair easier to manage.
-
Step 2
Begin at the top of the head where the braid will start, use the rattail comb to divide a small section of hair. Divide that section into three individual sections.
-
Step 3
Make an underhand braid by crossing the right section under the center section, and then cross the left section under the center section. Then, cross the section in your left hand under the center section.
-
Step 4
Hold the braid in your right hand with your palm up and a finger dividing each section. Divide a one-inch section of hair on the left side and add it to the section of hair on the left.
-
Step 5
Reverse the action by holding the braid in your left hand with your palm up and a finger dividing each section. Divide a one-inch section of hair on the right side and add it to the section of hair on the right.
-
Step 6
Continue this process until you reach the nape of the neck and run out of hair. Secure the end of the Dutch braid with a barrette or clip.
