Facial toners leave skin refreshed and revived after cleansing. They also penetrate pores and remove excess oils. But a high-quality facial toner does not have to leave a dent in your wallet. You can make your own toner using simple, household ingredients and have the benefit of limiting undesirable and harsh ingredients.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dark-colored glass bottle with screw-on lid
  • 2 oz. of green tea
  • Lavender essential oil
  • Geranium essential oil
  • Cotton ball or pad
  1. Step 1

Prepare the green tea according to package directions.

  2. Step 2

Pour the green tea into a glass bottle leaving some room at the top.

  3. Step 3

Add the essential oils to the bottle--5 drops each of lavender and geranium oil.

  4. Step 4

Put the screw-top on the bottle and shake it well to combine the ingredients.

  5. Step 5

Allow the toner to cool and then apply it to your freshly-washed face using gentle swipes with a cotton ball or pad.

  6. Step 6

Refrigerate the toner and use as needed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Essential oils have a tendency to separate. To combat this, simply shake the bottle before each use--this ensures that the oils sufficiently blend.
  • Toning the skin is not an adequate substitute for cleansing. Resist the desire to simply apply toner whenever your skin feels or looks dirty.
  • The cotton ball or pad should appear somewhat clean after toning. If it looks dirty, re-wash the skin and follow-up with toner.
  • Apply toner before using any facial mask, moisturizer or sunscreen.
  • Do not rinse your face after applying the toner.
  • Always test a small patch of skin prior to first use. If any irritation or discomfort occurs, discontinue use.
