Many people love to have a caricature drawn of themselves. These drawings, with their exaggerated and cartoon-like features, bring a sense of enjoyment to not only the caricature's subject but to the artist as well. Here's some suggestions to help you learn how to draw facial features in a caricature.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Paper
  • Marker
Step1
Study your subject's face. You usually don't have a lot of time to study your subject, so you need to quickly get an idea of the subject's face shape and facial features.
Step2
Use the marker to draw the face shape of your subject. You may choose to exaggerate certain features of the face shape, such as the size or shape of the chin or the size of the forehead.
Step3
Draw the facial features of your subject. Caricatures contain exaggerated facial features. If your subject does not have any obvious unusual features, you will need to make a decision as to which facial features you wish to enhance. This decision is up to the individual artist. You can exaggerate their nose, ears, cheeks, hair, freckles or even the smile.
Step4
Vary the thickness of the lines in your drawing. Caricatures usually contain both thin and thick lines. Use thin lines for small details and use thick lines for facial edges, such as the edges of the chin, the nose and the eyelids.
