Step 1
Locate a veterinarian that you trustand one that is convenient for you. You're going to want to find a vet that is near your home and one that you also can put your faith into because you'll maintain your puppy's health through regular checkups with the chosen vet.
-
Step 2
Make an appointment with your veterinarian and inform them that the appointment is for your puppy's first shots. Because first-time appointments may require a longer time slot, make sure you allow enough time to assure that you're not going to be rushed.
-
Step 3
Arrive early to fill out new "patient" paperwork at your veterinarian's office. Bring any information provided to you when you got your new puppy--from a rescue agency, from a breeder or general information concerning where your puppy came from.
-
Step 4
Establish a vaccination schedule with your veterinarian. It's important that your puppy's first series of shots occur within a specified time--the first shots at 6 to 8 weeks of age and the next series 2 to 4 weeks later. Some vets spread new puppy vaccinations over a three series course from 6 to 16 weeks.

Step 5
Return to your veterinarian as recommended in order to follow vaccination booster schedules, usually on an annual basis.
