Before you cut hair, you want to get the hair ready for the cut. If the hair is left unprepared, you run the risk of giving an unflattering and uneven haircut. Preparation only takes a few minutes and requires a few styling products.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Shampoo the hair in the sink. Use a clarifying shampoo as a way to get rid of any product buildup in the hair.
Step2
Rinse the shampoo out of the client's hair. To get rid of any knots, use a conditioner in their hair. Many stylists use a volumizing conditioner as a way to provide body once the hair is blow-dried.
Step3
Run cool water through the client's hair the until the products are rinsed out. You can choose to use a leave-in conditioner at this point.
Step4
Comb and brush out the hair. Check to make sure that you have removed all of the knots from the hair. Now you're ready to start cutting the hair.

Tips & Warnings

  • The shampoos and conditioners that you decide to use may vary depending on the client's hair type. Discuss the products that you want to use with the client.
  • In some cases, your client may not want a shampoo before the cut. You would then simply wet the hair with a spray bottle and comb it before you start cutting the hair.
