Wearing your hair in cornrow braids is a wonderful way to express yourself. The braids are also easy to maintain. If you can French braid hair, you also can also make cornrows. The process is identical, it's just done on a much smaller scale.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Dampen the hair by misting it with water from a spray bottle. You could also use a light hair oil to make the hair easier to work with.

  2. Step 2

Start in the center of the forehead. Part of a very small section of hair from the forehead to the nape of the neck with the comb tip. Clip the surrounding hair back, so it's out of your way.

  3. Step 3

Take a small chunk of hair at the point where you want the cornrow to begin and part it off from the rest with your comb. Divide this small sections into three equal portions.

  4. Step 4

Braid this front section of hair two or three times before you begin to add more to the cornrow. Then, use your index finger to reach under and add more hair to the middle section of the braid.

  5. Step 5

Continue adding hair until the cornrow is complete. Secure it with a bead, barrette or elastic band made for hair.

  6. Step 6

Section off another small path of hair and repeat. Continue to cornrow small paths of hair from the front of the head to the neck until all of the hair on the head has been braided.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't pull too tightly at the scalp. Use hair wax if needed to keep the hair smooth and easy to work with.
