A big part of giving someone a pedicure is clipping the toenails correctly. If you don't clip the toenails correctly, not only might you hurt your client, but you may ruin the pedicure completely and create ingrown toenails. Luckily clipping toenails is easy with the following tips.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Soak the feet in a shallow basin or a tub full of warm water for about 10 to 20 minutes. Feel free to add any skin softening products, bath salts, essential oils or products for pedicures.

  2. Step 2

Dry the foot well, making sure to get between the toes.

  3. Step 3

Take off any nail polish on the toes using a nail polish remover. If the nails are especially dirty, scrub them with a nail scrubber to get out any ingrained dirt.

  4. Step 4

Start at the pinky toe and work your way across to the big toe. Grasp the foot firmly at the back of the ankle and clip the toenail straight across to square it off. To prevent ingrown toenails, the nails should be slightly longer than the toe.

  5. Step 5

Clip the corners at a 45-degree angle to prevent in-grown toe nails. Avoid digging into the corners of the toenails to prevent ingrown toenails.

  6. Step 6

Place the nail clippings into the trash.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many experts suggest starting on the same foot for every pedicure client.
