Brazilian jiu jitsu's four points base control position is a dominant position that allows you to prevent your jiu jitsu opponent from moving while giving you a number of potential joint locks and chokes that you can apply to get a submission. As with all jiu jitsu moves, proper technique is essential to the four points base control, so follow these steps to do the move correctly.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get your opponent on his back. Quickly go for a choke or make a move for his arm on the same side you're on so he extends the arm up and away from his body. When he does this, wedge your knee as deeply into his armpit as possible. If you can extend his arm straight upwards over his head do so.

  2. Step 2

Cross your opponent's body by placing one elbow firmly against her neck and head. Put your other elbow on the ground against her hip. Make sure both of your knees are firmly planted in a solid base. Lean down on your opponent with all your weight so you pin her chest and her arm that isn't trapped by your knee.

  3. Step 3

Follow your opponent as he squirms away from you or creates distance between one of the four points of your base (for example, your wedged knee). If your opponent is able to gain some significant distance between you and a pinning point of the base, then go for a choke or joint lock in order to force him to retract and defend. At this point, close the distance that he gained and tighten up the four points base control that you established.
