How to Do the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Closed Guard Position

Brazilian jiu jitsu refers to the martial art of grappling and ground fighting. A ground fighting technique called closed guard position offers one of the most straightforward and successful ways to dismount or control an opponent while on top of you. Learn the closed guard position techniques by practicing these steps.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Establish yourself on your back as your opponent attacks you by punching, kicking, using a strangle hold or other attack of any type.

  2. Step 2

    Close your legs around your opponent's body. Grab his sleeves and bring your legs to his hips.

  3. Step 3

    Cross your feet as you wrap legs around the opponent's body.

  4. Step 4

    Concentrate on holding her forward or into your body.

  5. Step 5

    Watch for a choke hold or other offensive move like a punch. As he tries to choke you, drive your opponent away by pulling his body downward with your legs. The opponent loses all of his power.

  6. Step 6
