One of the best exercises you can do for your body is the dumbbell lunge exercise. Dumbbell lunge exercises work the muscles in your legs to build strength. Follow these steps to begin your full body movement exercise program.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Make sure you have ample room to move. You must be able to perform a fluid movement without running into furniture or other objects.

  2. Step 2

Pick up the dumbbells and hold them down by your sides with your palms facing inward. Keep your body straight and your legs about a foot apart. Look straight ahead during the entire workout.

  3. Step 3

Move your right leg forward with one big step, aiming your left knee toward the floor. Balance the weight of the dumbbells evenly across both sides. Keep the right leg flexed enough to bend naturally and your back straight during this exercise.

  4. Step 4

Stop just before the left knee touches the floor. Push your body up and back to a standing position. Now repeat this action with the right side.

  5. Step 5

Remember to alternate your legs as you perform lunges. Do several lunges with one leg, and then the same number on the other. You will build muscle tone and the movement will become easier the more you exercise.

Tips & Warnings
  • You emphasize the strength of the gluteus maximus when you perform a long lunge. Shorter lunges help develop the quadriceps.
  • Be sure to maintain perfect balance during the exercises.
