Step 1
Stand with your back straight and shoulders back. Relax your arms in front of you. Bring your arms up in front of you. Keep your arms out about an inch in front of you and four inches apart.
-
Step 2
Assume first position by putting your heels together and pointing your toes outward. Your feet should form a wide V-shape.
-
Step 3
Take second position by sliding one foot outward until your feet are about a foot apart. Keep the toes pointed outward.
-
Step 4
Slide one foot in toward the other foot until the heel is touching the arch of the other foot. This T-shape, with one foot pointed forward and the other to the side, is third position.
-
Step 5
Lift the heel of your foot that touches the arch of the other foot and slide it forward with your toe touching the floor until it's about a foot in front of your other foot. This foot should remain pointed outward. Place your heel back on the floor to finish fourth position.
-
Step 6
Bring your front foot back so the heel touches the toes of your back foot. Lift the heel, slide it back and then step down to assume fifth position. It's similar to third position, but your heel touches your toes as opposed to the arch. Keep your foot turned outward to form an L-shape.
