Going to your first audition can be very exciting if you're prepared. You need something special if you are going to stand out from the competition. There are certain things to know in order to handle an acting audition and get the part you want.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Resume
  • Head shots
  • DVD or CD
  1. Step 1

Be prepared before you get there. Know what the casting director is looking for and deliver what is expected.

  2. Step 2

Memorize your lines if you've had a chance to view them ahead of time. When you don't get a script preview, read your lines accurately while looking up as much as possible.

  3. Step 3

Introduce yourself, shake hands and make your pitch to the casting director. Smile and make eye contact as you hand over your resume and head shot.

  4. Step 4

Show emotion when you speak and feel the part. You want the director to believe you are the character and forget that you are just acting.

  5. Step 5

Read several parts if possible so that you can show your range. Sing and dance if it is included in the audition.

  6. Step 6

Include an acting demo on a CD or a DVD if possible. You can also include a website with your photos.

  7. Step 7

Wear an outfit that would be appropriate to your character. Wear regular casual clothing if you aren't told to dress in character.

Tips & Warnings
  • Show confidence even if you don't feel it. Believe in yourself and project that attitude when you walk in and during the audition.
  • Don't be arrogant and too sure of yourself. Appearing over confident can cost you the part.
