Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Use "Finder" to launch an application or get around the computer. Click on the Desktop, a "Finder" window or the "Finder" icon to get into "Finder."
Step2
Keep an eye on the application menu at the top of the screen. This displays the name of the active application. You can also check the "Dock" at the bottom of the screen. The "Dock" holds shortcuts to applications as well as folders and files. A black triangle below an item in "Dock" means the application is open.
Step3
Make files and folders on your Apple computer easier to access. Drag them to the "Dock" or to the sidebar on the bottom of "Finder." Hold the mouse key down and drag the icon across the desktop. Press on an icon and drag it to rearrange. To remove an item, drag it out of "Finder" or "Dock" and remove your finger from the mouse.
Step4
Open an application by clicking its icon once. To close it, select "File" and "Quit." Clicking on the red button in the top left corner will close the application, but will not quit it.
Step5
Click twice with your left mouse key to open a folder. To go back to the last folder, click the back button at the top right of the screen. To make a new folder, hit the keys "shift," "command" and "N" at the same time. Click on the title and then type in a new name.
Step6
Delete files and icons by clicking on them and dragging to the trash basket in the "Dock." Empty the Trash basket permanently by pressing on the Trash basket until the menu appears.
Step7
Become familiar with Apple computer troubleshooting techniques. Try a restart when things are running slowly or not opening. Click once on the menu under the Apple and choose "Restart." When just one application is having a problem, hold down the option key and press on the applications icon in the "Dock." Choose "Force Quit" from the pop up menu.
