Things You'll Need:
- Cleaning brushes
- Scouring powder
-
Step 1
Decide whether to remodel your old sink or buy an antique sink. There are salvage companies that sell refurbished antique items from remodeled homes.
-
Step 2
Remodel your original sink by adding new faucets and a sprayer. If possible, choose an antique sink that fits it into the existing hole.
-
Step 3
Check over the original or replacement sink for rust and dirt. Remove either of these by using a simple paste made of powdered scouring powder and water. Brush it on the areas that need cleaning. Antique sinks are hardy and can take abrasive scouring powder.
-
Step 4
Allow the paste to set a few minutes and scrub lightly with a cleaning brush. You can use a toothbrush in small, hard to reach areas.
-
Step 5
Rinse the cleaner off by first wiping off the excess with a wet towel. If possible, take the sink outside and wash with a water hose. Antique sinks are heavy, so use your own judgment when moving.
-
Step 6
Let the sink dry completely and install the kitchen faucets before putting into place. Lift the sink and insert into the existing hole. Caulk around the perimeter of the sink.
-
Step 7
Make cut marks on the counter area if you need to make the existing hole a little larger. Most sinks are top mounted and can be set into place.
