Step aerobics is a low impact exercise activity utilizing a bench or "step" ranging from 4 to 10 inches in height. Step aerobics routines incorporate a variety of moves creating an effective, interesting cardiovascular workout. The V-up (or V-step) is a basic move in which the feet, stepping wide, form the letter "V" on the bench.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Stand with your feet a shoulder width apart, facing the bench. You should be a comfortable distance away from the bench, about a half-step. Keep your back straight shoulders back, hips and buttocks pulled in and eyes up.
Step2
Step as far onto the right side of the bench as possible with your right foot, making sure to keep your entire foot flat on the bench. This is count one.
Step3
Repeat the same motion with your left foot, stepping as far to the left side of the bench as possible. You've now created a "V" with your feet. This is count two.
Step4
Move your right foot backward onto the floor in the center position from which you started. This is count three.
Step5
Bring your left foot back to your right, standing in the center position on the floor. This step concludes the exercise as count four. Repeat the exercise, alternating left and right, as part of an upbeat step routine.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear good quality athletic shoes to give your feet adequate arch support.
  • Begin your workout with a warm up and end with a cool down.
  • Always stretch before exercising to prevent injuries.
  • Consult your doctor before beginning any new exercise regimen, especially if you've been inactive for a long period of time.
