Step Aerobics is a low impact cardiovascular exercise performed on a platform or "bench." Through a variety of moves combined to create a routine, step aerobics is an effective way to get an extensive cardio workout. The "repeater" step is an eight-count move frequently incorporated in step aerobics routines.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Stand a comfortable distance (about a half step) behind your horizontally positioned bench. Keep your back straight, shoulders back, hips and buttocks pulled in and your chin up.
Step2
Step your left foot squarely onto the lower right corner of the bench, making sure to place your entire foot on the bench. This is count one.
Step3
Raise your right foot out, extending straight from the knee, for count two.
Step4
Move your right foot back to the floor behind you, tapping lightly on the floor. This is count three.
Step5
Kick your right leg out in front of you and then lightly tap the floor behind your bench. Repeat to complete three consecutive kicks and light floor taps with your right foot. This takes you through count six.
Step6
Place your right foot completely down on the floor behind your bench for count seven.
Step7
Finish the move by stepping down from the bench with your left foot, placing it on the floor next to your right foot. This concludes the move with count eight.
Step8
Repeat exercise with the opposite feet.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always stretch before exercising to help avoid injury.
  • Invest in good quality athletic shoes, preferably those designed specifically for step aerobics.
  • Consult with your doctor before beginning any new exercise routine, especially if you've been inactive for a long period of time.
