How to Put Hair in a French Twist for Your Wedding Day

A French twist might be your best choice for your wedding day hair, especially if your dress is complex or your hair is thin. It doesn't take much time to do and you can make it loose or tight. Placing a tiara on top or flowers or baby's breath on the side or adding a decorative comb accentuates the style while keeping it simple.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Bobby pins
  • Comb
  • Hair spray
  • Baby's breath or other flowers, decorative comb or tiara

Step1
Pull the hair back as you would for a ponytail, smoothing out the hair as you go. Leave it unsecured. Gather the hair to the center back of the head, holding the hair completely in your left hand.
Step2
Bring the free end of the hair upward with your right hand toward the top of the head. Use your comb to smooth out the hair and grab any flyaways. At the base of the pony tail, begin to twist the hair to the left. Twist and tuck a little until a slight twist forms.
Step3
Go back down to the base. Take bobby pins and begin to pin the hair in position. Place a pin into the center of the head, open end facing to the left. Then grab some hair and add a pin with the open end to the right to secure it. Keep moving up the twist, securing and tightening as you go.
Step4
Stop tucking and pinning at the crown of the head. Bring the remaining hair together and either tuck it inward into the twist you created or create a swooping roll on the top. Either style looks great. Try both and use a mirror to see which one you prefer.
Step5
Spray your head thoroughly with a firm-hold hairspray. Make sure it feels tight and secure but not crusty and crisp.
Step6
Add your wedding accessories. If you use a tiara, place it on the crown of the head. You can tuck some baby's breath or other flowers neatly into the crease of the twist. A decorative comb tucks into the fold in the same manner you placed the bobby pins.
