Christmas is a wonderful time for making simple crafts and these mitten ornaments are a great way to get the whole family involved. This is a project that, with a little help, lets children use their creative side and customize their mittens as they like. These crafts are great to hang on the Christmas tree or give away as a homemade gift to family or friends.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Construction paper
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • Craft glue
  • Tissue paper, cotton balls or light-weight stuffing material
  • Ribbon or string
  • Decorations (crayons, markers, stickers, glitter glue)
  1. Step 1

Draw or trace a mitten shape on a piece of construction paper. A way to make the ornament more personal is to trace each family members hand with fingers together.

  2. Step 2

Cut out four mitten shapes for each ornament and make sure they are the same size. Position two mittens together and punch a hole on the bottom.

  3. Step 3

Place each set of mittens on your workspace with the thumbs pointing together. Color or draw designs using crayons and markers. For a special touch, write family members names and the year on each of the mittens. Embellish with stickers or glitter glue.

  4. Step 4

Glue two of the mittens together leaving the bottom open. Stuff each one with scrunched up tissue paper, cotton balls or stuffing material and glue closed.

  5. Step 5

Take a piece of ribbon or string about 1 foot long and tie the two mittens together.

  6. Step 6

Hang your ornament on the tree or give to a loved one.
