How to Make Hot Cocoa From Scratch

Hot cocoa is a less fattening alternative to hot chocolate. It is made with cocoa powder and usually skim milk; hot chocolate on the other hand is made from ground chocolate which contains cocoa butter. In just a few simple steps, hot cocoa easily replaces the typical pre-packaged hot chocolate.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cup or mug
  • Cocoa powder
  • Skim milk
  • Sweetener
  1. Step 1

    Heat skim milk in a pot on the stove until it's at a boil.

  2. Step 2

    Scoop two plentiful scoops of fresh cocoa into a cup or large mug and fill the cup half full of the warm milk.

  3. Step 3

    Stir thoroughly before adding more skim milk to fill the cup.

  4. Step 4

    Leave room in the cup for adding a sweetener, such as sugar or marshmallows, before blending completely.

Tips & Warnings
  • Extra ingredients like ground cinnamon, peppermint and vanilla add additional flavor.
