How to Make Hot Cocoa From Scratch

Hot cocoa is a less fattening alternative to hot chocolate. It is made with cocoa powder and usually skim milk; hot chocolate on the other hand is made from ground chocolate which contains cocoa butter. In just a few simple steps, hot cocoa easily replaces the typical pre-packaged hot chocolate.

Things You'll Need

• Cup or mug
• Cocoa powder
• Skim milk
• Sweetener

1. Heat skim milk in a pot on the stove until it's at a boil.

2. Scoop two plentiful scoops of fresh cocoa into a cup or large mug and fill the cup half full of the warm milk.

3. Stir thoroughly before adding more skim milk to fill the cup.

4. Leave room in the cup for adding a sweetener, such as sugar or marshmallows, before blending completely.

• Extra ingredients like ground cinnamon, peppermint and vanilla add additional flavor.
