Glass blowing isn't just crafting. It is an art learned through a commitment of time and patience. The best way to start glass blowing is to visit a glass blowing studio that teaches classes. Let them furnish all the tools and you just show up for the instruction until you feel you are ready to create art on your own.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Step1
Clean the end of the blow pipe with rubbing alcohol and a small paper towel.
Step2
Remove a chunk of molten glass from the 2100 degree furnace. Keep the blow pipe turning at all times. Move toward the work station.
Step3
Roll the molten glass gently on a girdle to elongate the ornament. Use pliers to twist and pull the end of the molten glass for a unique tear drop shaped ornament.
Step4
Move to the graffer's bench and place the blow pipe on top. Continue to turn the pipe. Gently blow into the end of the blow pipe. Increase your blowing as the ornament takes shape. Stop before it bursts. Use pliers and make an ornament hook at the end by pulling out the glass and turning the tip inward to touch the glass ornament.
Step5
Place the glass ornament in the annealer. Allow the glass ornament to slowly cook in the annealer over night.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add glass beads for coloring.
  • Return to the glory hole and heat the glass as often as necessary to keep it pliable.
