How to Attach Pedals to a Pedal Board

You've just created a custom-made guitar pedal board and now you're wondering how to attach the pedals. There are three simple and inexpensive ways to accomplish this task, although the type of pedals and pedal board you have will determine which method you use.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Use hook and loop tape. For strength and durability, be sure to choose an industrial-grade variety. Remove the rubber feet on the back of the guitar pedals so that you have a flat surface with which to work. Attach one side of the hook and loop tape to the back of the guitar pedals and the other side to the pedal board. Although this method is invisible, one of the drawbacks of using hook and loop tape to attach pedals to a pedal board is that it can leave a sticky residue.
Step2
Tie your pedals to the pedal board using tie downs. Tie downs are made of hard plastic and resemble ties that secure a toy to its package. Tie downs are available in bulk, relatively inexpensive and easy to use. However, due to the length of some tie downs, they may not work well with all pedals. In addition, some pedal enthusiasts do not use tie downs because they are too visible.
Step3
Chain your pedals to the pedal board using the bicycle method. Less sticky than hook and loop tape and better looking than tie downs, the bicycle method uses short, metal bands to secure the pedals to the pedal board. This inexpensive method works by screwing one end of the band to the back of the pedals and the other end of the band to the pedal board.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can only use the bicycle method with pedals that have existing screws in the back. Likewise, it works best when screwed onto wooden pedal boards.
