Triathlon wetsuits keep you warm while swimming as well as increase your speed. A wide variety of triathlon wetsuits exist for you to choose from. Selecting the type of wetsuit you need depends on the temperature of the water you swim in and your personal comfort expectations.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Socks
  • Triathlon wetsuit
  1. Step 1

Decide what type of triathlon wetsuit you need. Choose a full-body wetsuit for colder temperatures or a sleeveless suit for warmer temperatures. You can use a two-piece wetsuit if you prefer, but these often do not have zippers and can take a little longer to put on.

  2. Step 2

Try on the wetsuit. Make sure your skin is completely dry and keep your socks on to help you maneuver the suit over your feet. Pull it on gently, one leg at a time. Roll the wetsuit up your body slowly, smoothing out any air pockets you see.

  3. Step 3

Ask someone to help you with the zipper. If you put the wetsuit on correctly, it should zip up smoothly.

  4. Step 4

Check the fit of the wetsuit with your hands and in a mirror. Pull the wetsuit at your belly to see if creates suction. Make sure the wetsuit fits firmly around your neck so no water is able to enter your suit. Lots of air pockets can mean your suit is too big, while uncomfortable tightness around the crotch or shoulder area means your wetsuit is too small.

Tips & Warnings
  • Your triathlon wetsuit should fit like a second skin. Keep trying on different types and brands of wetsuits until you find what works best for you.
  • Don't wear sharp or pointy jewelry when trying on a wetsuit. Trim your fingernails so they don't snag.
