Instructions
  1. Step 1

Undergo mental training. You must be ready psychologically to undergo the rest of training necessary to win at fencing. You not only have to undergo physical and tactical training, you must also have the mental capacity to perform your best game during a match.

  2. Step 2

Learn fencing strategies. Tactical theories are available to help you determine which move is strategically best during a match. You can learn tactical theories for everything from basic moves to the most advanced bouts.

  3. Step 3

Exercise to stay in shape. Cardio workouts help you build endurance for a match and strength training helps you build muscles. You might also consider yoga because it helps improve flexibility that you'll tap into during a bout.

  4. Step 4

Eat healthy meals and stay hydrated. Adequate water, especially in the days leading up to the competition, gives you an extra edge over your competition.

  5. Step 5

Wear an outfit that makes you feel comfortable. You might be able to add comfort and save money by making your own fencing outfit. However, it's important to make sure your attire meets tournament regulations, if applicable.

  6. Step 6

Stretch before and after your bout. This makes the bout easier on your body, and it increases your agility during the competition.

  7. Step 7

Show off your fancy footwork. This is the basis of your ability to win at fencing. If you can move well and coordinate that with the rest of your technique, you'll be successful in the bout.
