The North and South position is a control position in Jujitsu that allows you to move from the side control (or side mount) over your opponent's head to try achieve a more dominant position. The North and South immobilizes your Jujitsu opponent while giving you room to move.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Lean all your weight on your opponent from the side position. Straighten your legs and spread them as wide as possible. Shuffle your legs towards your opponent's head until your stomach is on top of his head.

  2. Step 2

Move your arm on the opposite side that you came from under your opponent's arm. Grab his belt and hold it tightly. Slide your free hand under your opponent's second arm and grab the belt on the same side.

  3. Step 3

Position your knees by your opponent's head and post up onto them. Lean forward and turn your head so it's flat against your opponent's stomach. Maintain the position by following your opponent in the direction that he tries to move away from you.

  4. Step 4

Shoot your legs out behind you if you feel your opponent start to push you up and away from his body. Walk forward on your knees if your opponent manages to leverage against your body to create distance between you and him as he tries to break the North and South position.

Tips & Warnings
  • Maintain the strongest position possible by keeping your opponent's head centered between your knees at all times.
