How to Choose Bras That Fit

Your bra is an important part of your wardrobe. It protects you during athletic activity, and gives you support throughout the day. Different activities call for different styles of bras. One bra won't give you lifted cleavage for evening wear and support for sports.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find your correct bra size for your bust measurements. You can do this with an online bra calculator, or you can be fitted at a lingerie store. It's important to make sure you're in the right size before you look for the right style.

  2. Step 2

Try on several styles of bras. If your breast bulges out over the top of your bra, you may be trying to wear a style that doesn't work with your bra size. If you have a full bust you might not be able to wear a demi-cup or a push up bra, instead you will need a full coverage bra. If your bra fits on one side and not the other you can try a bra with stretch fabric in the cup, or one with removable padding and only remove the padding on the smaller side.

  3. Step 3

Choose different bras for different activities. You need lots of support in bra while exercising or engaging in sporting events. Sports bras come in three support groups, high, medium, and low impact. A sports bra helps prevent painful bouncing, and provides excellent protection from injury.

  4. Step 4

Decide on what you need in an evening wear bra. A push up bra will give you lift and make you look fuller, but a seamless minimizer will hold you firmly and make you look smaller. A plunge bra is great for low cut gowns and dresses, it gives nice support and it separates.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are many conflicting opinions on weather or not you should wear a bra to bed. Wearing one will not help prevent sagging, but it will limit circulation in your breast.
  • Fitting yourself for a bra will be different if you are pregnant or nursing, if you have had mastectomy, or if you have other breast health issues that require a specialty bra.
