Step 1
Become very comfortable with the basic 180 BMX trick prior to working on variations.
-
Step 2
Learn to turn a 180 into a fakie by riding forward and doing a traditional 180. Rather than stopping at the point your bike hits the ground, allow the momentum of the 180 to carry you backward into a fakie. Even if you can't ride fakie very far, coasting at this point will help you improve your skills.
-
Step 3
Perform a 180 out of a fakie by riding fakie and turning your handle bars until you've turned out of the fakie about a quarter of the way. At that point, use your brakes to stop the backward roll of your bike, and lift the front wheel sharply.
-
Step 4
Pull your handle bars sharply toward your chest while leaning back so your center of gravity is above your rear tire. Find your balance to keep the front wheel in the air.
-
Step 5
Turn your shoulders and head the direction you want the bike to follow. Once you're facing 180 degrees from your fakie, allow the front wheel to return to the ground and pedal to propel the bike forward.
-
Step 6
Master these two basic variations of the 180 and you'll be able to learn to control the speed and height, so you can progress to doing 180 over small objects or over curbs.
