Things You'll Need:
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Towels
- Blow dryer
- Hair moisturizer
- Hair clips
- Rat-tailed comb
- Curling iron
-
Step 1
Wash and condition hair with deep conditioning products such as Carol's Daughter Rosemary Mint Shampoo with Sea Moss, Black Vanilla Leave-in Conditioner and Tui Hair Smoothie Conditioner. Towel and blow dry hair completely because moisture can cause the hair or scalp to burn.
-
Step 2
Heat the pressing comb for about a minute. Pressing combs come in stovetop or electrical versions. The stovetop version typically straightens the hair best, but the electrical comb delivers more consistent heat.
-
Step 3
Apply a dime size of moisturizer such as Hair Milk from Carol's Daughter to protect the hair from the heat. Separate your hair into four to six sections holding each section with a hair clip.
-
Step 4
Begin in the back at the nape of the neck. Part a small section of hair from one of the larger sections using a rat-tailed comb.
-
Step 5
Wipe the pressing comb on a towel to be sure it isn't too hot. If it burns the towel then it is too hot. Continue to wipe the comb between pressings to test the heat level and to remove excess moisture.
-
Step 6
Start the comb a half an inch from the scalp and comb through the hair to the ends. Comb the section about three more times, completely straightening the hair. Remove more hair from the larger section while you reheat the pressing comb.
-
Step 7
Reheat the comb after every one to two times you comb the hair. Straighten all hair sections and run the comb through the hair one final time just as you comb your hair with a regular comb. Add moisturizer to your hair and style using a curling iron or hair clips.
