The Kimura shoulder lock is a submission technique used in Brazilian Jujitsu. It provides a way to stop an opponent who has managed to get you on your back and is in your closed guard. Typically the opponent has a grip on your shirt or lapel. Executed properly, the Kimura shoulder lock will give you the upper hand.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Lay on your back with your knees and feet spread. Have your opponent kneel between your legs and attempt to pin you to the ground.

  2. Step 2

Wrap your legs around your opponent's waist.

  3. Step 3

Grip the wrist of your opponent and force it to the ground by your hip. If you are right-handed, use your right hand to force his left hand to the ground.

  4. Step 4

Sit up slightly, wrap your other arm around the opponent's immobilized upper arm and grasp the wrist of your other hand. This traps your opponent against your chest.

  5. Step 5

Move your legs around the opponent's middle section, pressing firmly into her lower back to prevent her from rolling out of the shoulder lock.

  6. Step 6

Push his elbow and hand towards the back of his head to complete the shoulder lock.
