Brazilian Jujitsu is a modified form of the original Japanese Jujitsu. Brazilian Jujitsu is also called Gracie Jujitsu. The arm bar takedown is a basic move used in Brazilian Jujitsu. The technique is designed to gain an advantage over your opponent.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Practice the arm bar takedown with an opponent or partner. This is the only true way to practice this Brazilian Jujitsu takedown.

  2. Step 2

Face off with your opponent. Have the opponent try to grab your shoulder.

  3. Step 3

Grab onto the shirt or the wrist of the opponent and pull him away from your body. You may have to squeeze or twist his wrist to loosen his grasp on you.

  4. Step 4

Slide your other arm diagonally across your body and under the armpit of your opponent. Keep your palm flat on her shirt.

  5. Step 5

Pull your partner by the arm across your body. This allows you to avoid any attack from your opponent.

  6. Step 6

Reach around his waist with both arms. Kick him in his Achilles tendon or heel. This forces him to the mat.

  7. Step 7

Roll on top of the opponent's body to keep her on the mat. This keeps her from attacking you again.

  8. Step 8

Practice the arm bar takedown until you are able to do it in real time. At proper speed, the arm bar takedown takes 3 to 5 seconds to complete
